For Immediate Release
Lancaster, Pa. – Barley Snyder is pleased to announce that Lancaster-based Church World Service has named attorney Lauren D. Berkowitz to its advisory board.
The organization is committed to welcoming refugees, immigrants, asylum-seekers and other uprooted people within the United States, who are seeking safety and the opportunity to rebuild their lives, according to its website.
Berkowitz will take over on the board for Barley Snyder partner David Freedman, who helped transition her into the position. Both are part of the Barley Snyder Immigration Practice Group.
“CWS is an organization that works to give a voice to people that otherwise would have difficulty finding one,” she said. “Part of the work it does is help newly arrived refugees adjust to life in Lancaster and access legal and other resources. I’m very proud to be part of that group and to volunteer what I’ve learned as an immigration attorney.”
Berkowitz came to Barley Snyder in January as the firm has worked to expand its immigration group due to growth. Barley Snyder also recently added a new paralegal in its immigration group.
Berkowitz has been an immigration attorney since 2016 and has considerable experience obtaining nonimmigrant and immigrant visas for professional workers, multinational managers and executives. She is also experienced in refugee and asylum law matters through her prior work at Nationalities Service Center in Philadelphia. She has volunteered her time to several American Immigration Lawyers Association pro bono programs – including Citizenship Day in Philadelphia and the Military Assistance Program – and she currently provides free legal assistance to immigrant survivors of violence through the Pennsylvania Immigration Resource Center (PIRC).
