For Immediate Release

Lancaster, Pa. – Barley Snyder is pleased to announce that attorney Kalani Linnell has been hand-picked to join a group of 50 Title IX and education law attorneys from across the country to develop joint guidance on the final Title IX regulations recently released.

The group will craft guidance to efficiently and thoroughly assist schools and colleges with the monumental task of analyzing and complying with the changes. The free guidance is intended to be thoughtful, high-quality and widely available online to all schools.

Title IX, signed into law in 1972, protects people from discrimination based on sex in education programs or activities that receive federal financial assistance.

The new 2,000-page final rule replaces decades of non-binding interpretations and “dear colleague” letters and creates a multitude of new and different requirements, as the recent updates were the first to Title IX’s regulations since 1975.

The project is being coordinated and hosted by the Student Conduct Institute, a nationally recognized project of the State University of New York that provides innovative Title IX training and resources to professionals from over 175 member institutions of post-secondary education.

Linnell was invited to contribute to the joint guidance based on her understanding of the unique challenges that K-12 schools have historically faced when attempting to comply with a law that was designed for the post-secondary educational setting.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with the other group members and draw on their valuable professional contributions to this field,” Linnell said. “The diverse joint guidance group of education attorneys that SCI has assembled to create a meaningful package of accessible legal analysis demonstrates SCI’s commitment to creating practical tools that facilitate equity in educational programs in addition to merely explaining regulatory compliance requirements.”

Linnell, who represents K-12 and post-secondary schools, is an associate at Barley Snyder and a member of the firm’s Education Practice Group.
