Lancaster, Pa. – Barley Snyder is proud to announce two attorneys have been recognized as “Law Firm Leaders” by Lawyers of Color. Partner Jennifer Craighead Carey and Attorney Silas M. Lawyers of Color is an organization that is dedicated to promoting diversity and social justice in the legal profession.

Craighead Carey is a partner in the firm’s Employment Practice Group, concentrating her practice in areas of labor and employment law. She has been a part of the firm for nearly 30 years.  Craighead Carey currently serves on the firm’s management committee and holds several board positions with local organizations.

“I am honored to be listed as a law firm leader through a nonprofit organization committed to highlighting people of color in the legal field,” said Craighead Carey.

Ruiz-Steele is the chair of Barley Snyder’s Immigration Practice Group, focusing her practice on immigration and nationality law for over 12 years. She represents immigration clients in every jurisdiction of the U.S., handling matters before the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, the U.S. Department of Labor, and consulates across the globe. Prior to joining the firm, she held her own immigration practice and represented clients involving immigrant visas, temporary work visas, business visas and naturalization. She earned her juris doctorate degree from Georgetown University Law Center after immigrating to the United States. Ruiz-Steele has been a frequent presenter at seminars and has served as a guest speaker for various professional associations and organizations.

“I am excited and honored to have been named a law firm leader by this trailblazing organization among many other incredible leaders in the country,” said Ruiz-Steele. “It is so important to reflect on the progress that our counterparts are making to spur motivation and drive success.”

Barley Snyder is committed to growing and fostering its diverse talent pool. The firm strives to achieve social equity through diversity and inclusion efforts both internally and externally. Historically, the firm has been fighting for social justice by pursuing discrimination cases that have reached as high as the U.S. Supreme Court. The firm also has a Diversity & Inclusion Committee which meets regularly to discuss strategies and methods for bringing awareness to diversity and inclusion.

“We are very lucky to have influential women like Jen and Silas who continuously make a positive difference at our firm,” said Partner Joshua Schwartz who co-chairs Barley Snyder’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee. “I congratulate them on achieving this recognition and placing a positive spotlight on our firm.”
