For Immediate Release

Reading, Pa. – We note with sadness the passing of Leon Miller, Esquire, one of the founders of our Reading practice, at the age of 85. He died Aug 21.

Leon was a Reading supporter through and through. He graduated from Reading High School, where he played varsity basketball and was senior class president. After completing his law studies at the University of Pennsylvania, he returned to his hometown and began a practice. That practice became Miller and Murray. A few years after Leon’s retirement in 1994, Miller and Murray merged with Barley Snyder.

In addition to our Reading practice, Leon’s progeny includes four children and nine grandchildren. He is also survived by his widow, Marian “Paddy” Miller. Leon and Paddy established the Leon A. and Marian I. Miller Family Scholarship Fund, which provides financial aid each year for one student from Berks County who is attending Leon’s undergraduate alma mater, Lafayette College.

Barley Snyder owes much to its founders, like Leon and Jim Murray, who died this time last year, for assembling the components which became today’s firm. They had the vision to build a regional force of the highest quality. A fine lawyer, respected and well-regarded by colleagues and clients, Leon was a mentor to a number of our Reading partners and left, through them, an indelible impression on our firm. Together we mark Aug. 21 as a day in which our firm lost one of our earliest leaders.

Please join Barley Snyder in expressing our condolences to our Reading colleagues and the Miller family.
