Lancaster, Pa. – Barley Snyder is pleased to announce that the Hon. David L. Ashworth (Ret.) has joined NAM (National Arbitration and Mediation) as a Hearing Officer. As a member of NAM’s esteemed national panel of neutrals, Judge Ashworth will be available to arbitrate and mediate matters throughout Pennsylvania and beyond.

NAM is one of the nation’s leading full-service providers of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) services, offering a highly secure suite of onsite, virtual and hybrid forums. For more than 30 years, NAM has supported clients across the United States and in major cities around the world and is widely recognized for its customer service, market-leading technology, and exceptional panel of arbitrators and mediators. With an outstanding roster of neutrals and concierge-level case administration, NAM serves more than 10,000 commercial entities and half of the Fortune 100 as a streamlined alternative to traditional litigation.

Judge Ashworth brings more than four decades of legal experience to his role as a Hearing Officer. He served as a judge on the Lancaster County Court of Common Pleas from 1999 through January 2026, presiding over Criminal Court, Civil Court, Drug Court and Discovery Motions Court. In 2020, he was elected by his peers to serve as President Judge, a position he held for five years while continuing to hear cases.

Following his retirement from the bench, Judge Ashworth joined Barley Snyder as attorney in its Alternative Dispute Resolution Service Team, where his practice focuses on mediating complex civil disputes, including medical malpractice, product liability, personal injury, commercial and construction matters.

Prior to his judicial service, Judge Ashworth spent more than 20 years in private practice, representing clients on both the plaintiff and defense sides. His experience as an advocate, combined with his years on the bench, provides him with a balanced, practical perspective on litigation risk and dispute resolution strategy.

As a Hearing Officer with NAM, Judge Ashworth will assist parties in resolving complex disputes efficiently and effectively through arbitration and mediation.
