Lancaster, Pa. – Exceptional lawyers are not born, they are made. They’re shaped and molded from a young age with the guidance and tutelage of their professors, their mentors and other lawyers.

At Barley Snyder, we believe the experience of our nearly 80 attorneys at six offices provide the ideal experience for potential attorneys to learn and to grow. Each year, our Summer Associate Program brings as many as three law school students into the firm to give them real-world experience as they prepare for a challenging and rewarding career as an attorney.

“Each year we receive a group of talented law students, eager to learn the practice of law,” said Derek Dissinger, an associate at Barley Snyder who is in charge of the program. “We provide these law students an opportunity to gain real-world legal experience in practicing law, and in particular, in practicing law the way we do here at Barley Snyder. The work assignments they are given as summer associates are exactly like the assignments they would receive as first-year associates. That means the transition from student to associate is smooth, which is better for the summer associates, the firm and our clients.”

This year, the firm has hired three law school students as summer associates:

Catherine Domineske is a Jenkintown native who graduated from the University of Delaware with a degree in English. She recently finished her second year at the Drexel University Thomas R. Kline School of Law.

Hans Kessler is a current law student at the University of Notre Dame and a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in history and political science. He is a native of Wyomissing in Berks County, near our Reading office.

Zachary Weit is from Lititz in Lancaster County and his schooling has taken him to Penn State, where he first received a degree in both English and Spanish, and now attends Penn State Law.

Barley Snyder already is seeking candidates for its competitive, comprehensive 2018 Summer Associate Program, which is open to students who will have finished their first or second year of law school. Ideal candidates will have demonstrated academic excellence in college and in law school, plus have ties or a strong connection to our local communities.

Resumes for summer associates must be received no later than Aug. 1 for consideration for the following summer. To apply, submit your resume to hr@barley.com with subject “Summer Associate Program.”
