Barley Snyder Partner Freedman Wins Alumni Award

November 10, 2021

For Immediate Release

Lancaster, Pa. – The George Mason University College of Humanities and Social Sciences has named Barley Snyder partner David Freedman one of the “Community & Catalysts Award” recipients for 2021.

The award is given to a graduate of the Fairfax, Va., school whose leadership, research and service have made outstanding contributions to their fields, their communities, and to George Mason University.

Freedman dedicated long hours in 2021 to spearheading a statewide effort to push courts to adjudicate U visa cases that have been backlogged for years. The project caught the eye of the White House, as the current administration made it a priority in June to begin processing the cases more quickly.

The school will present the award during a virtual ceremony on Nov. 18.

“I am honored that my alma mater would bestow on me such a prestigious award,” Freedman said. “The list of people that have received the award in the past is impressive, and now to have my name on that list truly is an honor.”

Earlier this year, Freedman also received the Pennsylvania Immigration Resource Center’s annual Light of Liberty award for his work on the U visa project. It was the third time he has received the award. Also this year, Freedman was recognized by the Central Penn Business Journal as one of the 30 most influential legal professionals in central Pennsylvania and he also recently received that publication’s Legal Excellence Award for his pro bono efforts.

Freedman is a member of the Barley Snyder Employment Practice Group and the chair of the firm’s Education Practice Group. He is also the president of the board of directors of the Lancaster Bar Association.
